Poetry Mad Libs: Borrowing Form to Reinvigorate Writing

Do you need to shake up your writing? Get out of a rut? Push your poetics beyond the familiar? In this workshop, we’ll look closely at mentor poems to study the specifics of their structure and then use them as a mad-libs-style frame for our own work. What happens when we try to precisely imitate another poet’s form and grammar? What surprising phrases, images, or associations will our minds reach for when we force ourselves from our well-trodden paths? Optional: Bring a short poem by a poet whose style is very different from yours. This craft talk is intended for writers of all levels.
