Overview Information

Inkubator Overview Description

Literary Cleveland’s tenth annual Inkubator Writing Conference will take place online September 16-18 and in-person September 20-21 at the downtown Cleveland Public Library, kicking off Cleveland Book Week. The Inkubator Writing Conference is one of the largest free writing festivals in the country. In 2024, Literary Cleveland extended the schedule to include 50 programs totaling 80 hours of free programs over nine days featuring an expanded list of high-profile regional and national writers. In addition to virtual and conference events, Literary Cleveland will partner with area organizations to present special community projects that bring the Inkubator out into Cleveland’s neighborhoods. Free registration for all events opens August 1 at 8am.

Cleveland Book Week

The Inkubator is once again part of Cleveland Book Week in September and will be followed by Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards (AWBA) ceremony on September 27, and the Great Lakes African American Writers Conference (GLAAWC pronounced “glossy”) on October 5-6. By partnering on Cleveland Book Week, AWBA, GLAAWC, and Literary Cleveland will enhance and amplify each other’s programs for greater impact. Award-winning authors will connect with local emerging writers to develop the next great voices, and collaborative events will inspire new projects and partnerships. More information about AWBA and GLAAWC will be announced soon.

Funders and Sponsors

The 2024 Inkubator is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, the Cleveland Foundation, and the Cyrus Eaton Foundation with additional support from the Fowler Family Foundation. Sponsors include the Cleveland Public Library and Mac’s Backs Book, as well as Appletree Books, Ashland University, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Northeast Ohio MFA (NEOMFA), OverDrive, Alma College, Fireside Book Shop, Hathaway Brown, and Margaret W.
