Intermediate Speculative Fiction Workshop - Spring 2025

Every year, The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association honors the best work in speculative fiction at the Nebula Awards. In this class, we will focus on developing our own short fiction by critically reading the six Nebula finalists in the short story category. Each week, we will examine a different story through the lens of a focused literary element. Weekly topics will include story structure, setting and worldbuilding, point of view, character development, and dialogue, among others. We will end each class with a writing prompt based on that week’s story and craft element. By the end of this class, you will have examined techniques of some of the best contemporary writers of short speculative fiction and applied those skills to further develop your own writing practic

Intermediate Speculative Fiction Workshop with Johnny Caputo takes place Thursday, March 20, March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17, and April 24 from 6:30-8:30pm in person at the Literary Cleveland office, 13002 Larchmere Blvd, Cleveland OH 44120.
