This Reader Series Class is unified by a quest. We’ll read and discuss three nonfiction books: Linda Hogan’s essay collection Dwellings: A Spiritual History of the Living World; Edward O. Wilson’s semi-autobiographical Biophilia: the human bond with other species; and Deborah Fleming’s Resurrection of the Wild: Meditations on Ohio’s Natural Landscape. The quest is to consider whether writing (and reading) can improve the human relationship with nature. How does a writer tell the truth so that someone else listens — and, perhaps, acts? If our talks inspire us (in the time between our discussions) to take walks in nature, makes some notes, or take some photographs, we can bring these activities into our discussions.
