Join us in person at Cleveland Public Library for free writing groups each month.

From January to December 2025, we will be offering free monthly writing groups in each genre at different branches of the Cleveland Public Library. Whether you are in the middle of a project or starting something new, these groups are designed to help you draft new work, refine your craft, and build community with other writers. Join us every month or stop by for a single session when you can.

First Saturday of each month

Fiction Writing Group

Rice Branch - Instructor: Annmarie Kelly

Join us in person at Cleveland Public Library Harvard-Lee Branch the first Saturday of each month for fiction writing and community in this free monthly writing group. Each month we will read samples of published stories and novels for inspiration, discuss craft and form, draft our own fiction writing in response to in-class exercises, and build community among fellow writers. Join us every month or stop by for a single session—this group is great for making progress on an ongoing project or for starting something new.

Write Now: Free Fiction Group takes place the first Saturday of each month (January 4, February 1, March 1, April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 6, October 4, November 1, and December 6) from 10:30am-12:00pm in person at the Harvard-Lee Branch of the Cleveland Public Library (16918 Harvard Ave, Cleveland, OH 44128).

Nonfiction Writing Group

Hough Branch - Instructor: Lara Lillibridge

Join us in person at Cleveland Public Library Hough Branch the second Saturday of each month for creative nonfiction writing and community in this free monthly writing group. Each month we will read samples of published essays and memoirs for inspiration, discuss craft and form, draft our own nonfiction writing in response to in-class exercises, and build community among fellow writers. Poetry Writing Group

Our Presenters

Annmarie Kelly

Annmarie Kelly is the author of Here Be Dragons, a memoir about the wonderful misery of raising kids with someone you love. She is also the host of Wild Precious Life, a literary podcast about making the most of the time we have. Her writing has appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered, in the New York Observer, Today Parenting, Black Fork, Anodyne, and Gordon Square Review. She lives in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jason Harris

Jason Harris is a Black American who currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for Gordon Square Review. For those interested, you may visit his website: https://jasonharriswriter.com/.

Stephanie Ginese

Stephanie Ginese is an author, instructor, and stand-up comedian from South Lorain, Ohio. Her work has been featured in Las Palabritas Journal at Harvard University, The Pinch Journal at University of Memphis, Wax Nine Journal, and elsewhere. Her debut collection of poetry, Unto Dogs, was released in July of 2022 on Grieveland; focusing on themes of Puerto Rican nationalism, history, reproductive violence, and spirituality.

Lara Lillibridge

Lara Lillibridge (she/they) is the author of The Truth About Unringing Phones: Essays on Yearning; Mama, Mama, Only Mama: An Irreverent Guide for the Newly Single Parent; and Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home. Lara is an editor for HeartWood Literary and holds an MFA from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
