Join us Saturday, April 5 at 2pm at the West Side Market for Literary Cleveland's "Hungry Heart," a free staged reading of original creative works on the topic of appetite as part of the Cleveland Humanities Festival.
As Mary Oliver wrote, “We all have a hungry heart.” There is a desire, a drive in all of us that goes beyond our appetite for perogies or paczkis. What can food and drink teach us about our deeper desires of hunger and thirst? What does factory farming, low-wage restaurant work, food deserts, or food waste reveal about the impact of our cultural cravings? How do we understand our culture, our relationships, ourselves through food? The poems, monologues, and short dramatic pieces by local authors reflect on the people, places, systems, relationships, and ambitions that make Cleveland a city of appetites.
This event is free but tickets are required. Please RSVP using the registration link.
This program is sponsored by the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities
