Literary Cleveland is accepting applications for Spring 2025 Amplify Fellowships. This is a paid four-month program that provides two local writers with the funding, resources, mentorship, and support to each create an interactive literary project for members of their community.
These interactive community projects may include but are not limited to: learning opportunities such as workshops or writing groups, publishing opportunities such as anthologies, site-specific writing events, community gatherings, and literature-in-public-places projects. We are especially interested in programs that engage with underrepresented groups and that do so in innovative ways. See specific examples from past Amplify Projects or from the O, Miami Festival. All projects should involve the community—in other words, individual writing projects (e.g., writing your book) are not eligible.
Fellows will gain experience in literary programming, event planning, communications, and community outreach. The fellowship is hybrid with most of the work taking place remotely as well as routine in-person meetings with staff approximately once a week.
This opportunity is intended for members of historically underrepresented groups in the writing and publishing industry. Our goal is to 1) provide writers on the margins with pathways to become arts leaders in the region, and 2) pilot innovative new program models for communities that have been historically underserved.
— 10-15 hours per week commitment from February-May 2025 (16 weeks approximately 200 hours total)
— Design and execute an original literary project that benefits the community
— Attend regular meetings with Literary Cleveland staff
— Attend additional Literary Cleveland events and programming as part of the community
— Applicants must be over 18
— Applicants must live in Northeast Ohio
— Project must be completed by May 30, 2025
— $8,000.00 paid in monthly installments of $2,000.00 each
— Free one-year Literary Cleveland membership
— December 9, 2024
Applications will be reviewed by past Amplify Fellows and Interns and will be scored based on impact (who will this support and how?), innovation (how does it break new ground?), and feasibility (how accomplishable is it?). Applicants will be selected by mid-January 2025 and will begin working with Literary Cleveland in early February 2025.
View the recording of our virtual information session to learn more about the Amplify Fellowship program. Literary Cleveland staff 1) explain how the Amplify Fellowship program works; 2) give an overview of the application process; and 3) provide tips for creating competitive applications. Don't hesitate to email staff at info@litcleveland.org with questions.
Thanks to our generous funders who made this program possible: The Cleveland Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council.
