This course is designed for students actively engaged in writing a memoir. The course will include a blend of workshop and craft topics: finding your structure, creating compelling scenes, developing setting and sense of place, and creating a sense of emotional stakes and conflict. Each writer will have at least two opportunities to share brief (five page) excerpts of their writing in class, and to obtain feedback from the instructor and their fellow students. Each meeting will feature a mix of short readings, focus on a particular craft topic, and in classes #2-8, a discussion of student work, along with short in-class writing exercises.
