Advanced Poetry Workshop - Fall 2024

With:
Meg Thompson

In a community atmosphere, our poetry, along with our sense of self, can reach new heights. Our voice sharpens and clarifies by talking about and celebrating the writing of others, and this, in turn, deepens the writing voice in our own poetry. Perhaps, though, one of the least discussed, though arguably most important parts of the workshop that we will focus on is listening. In this advanced poetry workshop, participants should come with one to two poems ready to discuss. We will spend the bulk of class workshopping so that by the end of the six class sessions, if a writer so desires, the poetry can be ready to submit for publication. And the writer, as suggested by Felicia Rose Chavez in The Anti-Racist Workshop: How to Decolonize the Creative Classroom, can be ready to "Engage in a supportive arts community."
